Witnessing In America

For many of us, our mission field is where we reside. There are a number who have taken up a heart for a specific nation who actively share their testimony to the people there. But, this article is for the faithful lovers who share that love with everyday people in the everyday places of their everyday lives.

First off, don't beat yourself up for not being one of the ones overseas in some unknown village. God will use you wherever you are, and if you don't have a heart for something, chances are, you won't be called for that thing (unless you ask for it). Truth of the matter is, God uses the things we are passionate about to reveal Himself to others. Because, honestly, who wants to listen to a passionless person...No one!

But, what is passion anyway? Is it something you relentlessly give yourself wholly to? In a way, yes; as Christians we are called to give it all. But, it is not a careless relenting. In fact, when it regards passion, it is your entire being that agrees together to throw itself into the thing/person you are passionate for (in other words, you are fully aware of your actions to give it all and you do so willing and joyfully).

Yet, there is another aspect of passion that I want to focus on. Are you ready for it...Love. Passion has been re-defined without this aspect, but really, you can't have the true version of passion without love. Love drives a person to be passionate. Passion can very well be defined as an overflow of love- where you can't just say it anymore, you have to show it, you have to "do something".

And that is where I'm going to bring it back to missions in America. We all have things we are passionate about in life, whether it be skateboarding, reading, gaming, sports, etc. But we all have ONE whom we are passionate for: God. And so, what are we going to DO about it?

I know that speaking to a stranger in WalMart or praying for someone during a flight might seem extraordinary to some of us. But let's make this simple. When you are passionate about something, you talk about it to other people. No one told you to do this, but you do it naturally. That's all witnessing has to be about, talking about the ONE you LOVE. So, if you say you love God, let this be a challenge to you to start a conversation with someone and talk about Him for a while. After all, you might just be the joy/ peace/ love that that person needs! :)
